TRACEY EMIN’S ETERNAL ECHOES AT WHITE CUBE
A journey into everlatsing devotion.
Tracey Emin’s ‘Lovers Grave’ at White Cube New York, is an exhilarating and radicalizing experience. In this multi-pronged exhibit, the super talented female alfa artist, blesses us with her hypnotic, symphony of human figures and surreal abstractions originating from images of archaeological burial sites, where human remains have been excavated and found to be clutching one another.
She provides visual intensity unlike anything we’ve experienced in a while. Her sundry oil storms of ghostly forms reveal all the invisible emotional tension triggered by the notion of everlasting devotion between two people, even into the afterlife.
Something about the paintings makes them feel real and illusory simultaneously: immersed in bold colors, waggish weirdness and outstanding ad hoc artplay that intermingles sexless human bodies, imaginary landscapes, wild elements and the artist’s inner life and emotional turmoil.
The concept of ‘Lovers Grave’ originates from images of archaeological burial sites, where human remains have been excavated and found to be clutching one another, seemingly locked in an eternal loving embrace. Emin is fascinated by the concept of eternal devotion between lovers, even beyond death, viewing it as a fundamental aspect of life.
