NAN GOLDIN AT GAGOSIAN
Nan Goldin’s exhibition at Gagosian was a spectacle - lines of people formed both outside and inside the gallery on opening night. The exhibit, ‘You Never Did Anything Wrong’, debuts two new moving-image works along with a series of photographs that showcase Goldin’s visual gusto and her ability to establish parallels between intimate observations and classical art.
The work ‘Stendhal Syndrome’ (2024) juxtaposes photographs of classical masterpieces taken by Goldin over two decades in museums like the Louvre, Borghese, and the Met, with intimate portraits of lovers, family, and friends exploring the striking connections between them all.
You ‘Never Did Anything Wrong’, Part 1 (2024) is a home movie, about the totality of a solar eclipse, filmed in Super 8 and 16mm. The soundtrack includes a mournful piece by Valerij Fedorenko and a chilling new score composed by Mica Levi.
The films are presented in pavilions designed by Goldin in collaboration with the Lebanese-French architect Hala Wardé. Each structure is crafted to reflect the essence of the corresponding film, fusing architecture, imagery and audio to create a higly stimulating and immersive experience.
