WILLY VANDERPERRE’S ARTISTIC JOURNEY
Step into the youth and fashion culture and diverse artistic repertoire of Belgian photographer Willy Vanderperre at MoMu, one of Antwerp’s most immersive museums.
The exhibit, ‘Willy Vanderperre’s prints, films, a rave and more...,’ showcases Vanderperre’s awe-inspiring oeuvre, highlighting his fascination with youth as a motivational force for nearly three decades. It also features his collaborations with designer Raf Simons and stylist Olivier Rizzo (Vanderperre's husband).
Widely known for his editorial work for magazines such as AnOther Magazine, Dust, i-D, Perfect, Vogue, and W Magazine, Vanderperre has also shot campaigns for fashion houses including Dior, Prada, and Carolina Herrera. His recognizable visual language is inspired by youth and subcultures. ‘Youth represent the future – they bring change, demand it almost,’ he said.
For this exhibit, Vanderperre has developed gorgeous, limited collectibles, including a few T-shirts and artworks such as “The Tormented Self-Portrait” by Ashley Bickerton. Proceeds from sales will be partially donated to çavaria, the Flemish advocacy group for LGBTI+ people.
The co-curation between Vanderperre and MoMu’s Romy Cockx is a real winner. The photographer hopes that the artworks and photos will help people gain a better “understanding of my world,” as he stated.
