STERLING RUBY AT FRIEZE NYC

Los Angeles-based artist Sterling Ruby has spawned an art and poetic cosmos imbued with surreal paintings on the Gagosian’s exhibit walls at Frieze NYC 2024. With new edition bombshells from another world, including four paintings from the TRIBUNE series (2021-) and a selection of collages from the DRFTRS series, the artist-turned-fashion designer just landed at the SHED, radiating powerful aesthetic energy on New York and the rest of the art world.

The insanely cool artist creates killer oil paintings and cosmic, multilayered collages with an explosive, bloody palette that taps into today's problems, social changes, intense emotions, speed, conflict, and self-destruction, alluding to Futurism and Russian Constructivism. Everything from the micro to the macro cosmos, contemporary and historical, to even literary references from ancient Greeks to Shakespeare, collides into an unexpectedly vibrant synergy.

 Sterling Ruby's bold, overdyed canvases are pretty, explosive, and philosophically deep. His interdisciplinary methods, combining painting, drawing, dyeing, and collage, are fierce! These next-level, knee-knocking pieces are phosphoric, alchemical, and a gift from the gods.
