David Bowie, No Different From Anyone Else, Dazed & Confused, Issue 15 (1995)

Kate Moss, What's The First Word That Comes Into Your Head, Dazed & Confused, Issue 43, (1998)

Rankin, co-founder and Dazed & Confused’s first Photographic Editor, produced entrancing, awe-inspiring optics and majestic imagery, giving a platform to rebellious youth and everyday people. From iconic supermodels and music icons to A-listers and working-class kids, Rankin documented the changing culture of one of the most glorious fashion and art decades. During that time, Rankin shot and worked on numerous creative projects side by side with some of the most respected artists, including David Bowie, Debbie Harry, Neneh Cherry, and U2.

Björk, Nanu Nanu Björk Calling, 1995

Baked Alaska, Diesel Style Lab AW, Dazed & Confused, Issue 45 (1998)

Jude Law, A Law Unto Himself, Dazed & Confused, Issue 15 (1995)

Constantly revolutionizing and reinventing fashion, beauty, advertising, and art, this frontline creative photographed over 200 iconic editorial shoots for the magazine in the span of 10 years. His work from this period remains a manifesto on how to view the world. In the process, he altered the landscape of avant-garde fashion, art, and cutting-edge magazines.

The reason the ‘90s remain relevant today is, to some extent, because they mirror our times of uncertainty, political change, loud environmentalism, mainstream pressure, and developing technologies (hi AI). ‘Back in the Dazed’ is the first retrospective in the UK of Rankin’s work and a reminder of youthful creativity through Rankin's eye and magazine

Debbie Harry, Eyes Wide Shut, Dazed, Issue 20 (1996)

U2, Twisting My Lemon Man, Dazed & Confused, Issue 30 (1997)

Stranded, Diesel Style Lab SS, Dazed & Confused, Issue 52 (1999)

We are in awe of Rankin, who has systematically surprised the fashion system, proving that his all-inclusive aesthetic philosophy is rock solid, totally outré, and here to stay. Head over to 180 Studios. Exhibit on view until June 23rd.
