HARMONY KORINE: AGGRESSIVE DR1FTER II

art

If you missed it, a second chapter of Harmony Korine’s 2023 Los Angeles exhibit “AGGRESSIVE DR1FTER”, opened last week at Hauser & Wirth / London, following his latest anti-film release Aggro Dr1ft. It's no surprise that we packed our bags with much anticipation and headed to London to experience it ourselves. We haven’t bumped into any spring breakers, aliens or Kim K, who recently teamed up with Korine for her first SKIMS swimwear collection. But the experience was outer space!

The exhibition features acid-hued oils, emphasizing the artist’s language of abstraction. These vibrant futurist works, created through innovative infrared camera techniques, blend Korine’s vast cinematic and exceptional artistic experience.

Monochromatic silhouettes and fiery close-ups of heads simultaneously interact with the environment, messing with viewers' perception and merging high and low to produce a game-like experience. Hallucinatory movements create an immersive feel, as if you're almost pulled into the vivid parallel world, manipulated with intricate details.

Korine is the one who will make you feel pure discomfort and provocation by taking you to the unfamiliar dimension of a vibrant palette, where human figures and overwhelming monochromatic hues become visceral and sensory.

It is abstract language and unique composition that champion multimedia artist Harmony Korine, pioneering the blending of film, science fiction, cinematography, and influences from artists like Martin Kippenberger and William Eggleston into his eccentric color palette of blues, greens, pinks, and oranges. He transcends abstract forms into a unique language, emphasizing metaphysical contemplation and capturing moments immersed in detail.

On view now at Hauser and Wirth LONDON until July 27th.
