‘DAD BODS’ AT THE HOLE, NEW YORK

Vibrant tones, vintage vibes, nude visuals, and guys galore at The Hole gallery.

On the grimy Lower East Side, amidst ominous storm clouds and sporadic rainfall, jolly art aficionados came out in droves. Impressively curated by Charlotte Grüssing, this group show titled, "Dad Bods," celebrates free-spirited, sexually independent male gusto in all its glory.

The naked figures, liberated from oppressive stereotypes, pave their own ontological and sexual pathways. Awash in an '80s-era electric palette with a wholesome hint of pre-Schwarzenegger Americana, this spectacle crackles with the alchemical blend of viril manhood, dude identity, and overt political signaling.

This unadorned panorama represents multiple intersections and artists where male form, physique, stereotype, self-awareness, manipulation, and ideology collide. We love Joseph Parro’s trippy spectral silhouette, Matthew Stone’s graphic Gaddi Torso, Drake Carr’s dramatic hyper-colored Service Boy, Eric Yahnker’s Spring Broken, and Michael Stamm’s super-stylized portrait of the infamous Barragán swimsuit!

Feast your eyes on this tour de force of male physique and identity at NYC’s coolest art salon on the LES.

The exhibit on view from August 8 through September 1, 2024 at The Hole, LES.
