CAI GUO QIANG’S - 蔡国强 ‘CITY OF FLOWERS IN THE SKY’

When it comes to astral artists with a penchant for booming pyrotechnics and beautiful aesthetics, (蔡国强) is the bomb.

For him, the sky is his canvas and space is his creative medium. ‘City of Flowers in the Sky’, his latest atmospheric adventure just implemented over Florence, Italy, came in the form of sizzling phosphorus reworks, figurative oral silhouettes and irradiating RGB artistic energy.

Super cool, multi-colored, kinetic and ephemeral, Cai’s stratospheric sculptures reference Taoist cosmology, Renaissance painting, blossoming visual bouquets and experimental art-making. Inspired by classical [Renaissance] humanism, this was the artist’s most fiery, mind-melting choreography yet – an ode to Sandro Botticelli’s Spring ‘Primavera.’

Cai’s insane oeuvre spans surreal gunpowder graphics, nitroglycerine art, fierce reworks, high-risk/white-hot installations and bombastic alchemy. His motto, in his own words: ‘strike, violence, birth, blossom, harmony and flourish.’

BANG! 爆炸!
